Itinerary

Day 1: Scared Valley to ChincheroMoraySalt MinesOllantaytambo and train to Aguas Calientes

Today start your tip from Cusco (Hotel-Airport-Airbnb), our Machupicchu Latin America expert guide will meet you and board our comfortable transport to begin an authentic journey discovering the new Sacred Valley and explore the most featured sites such as Chinchero visit the Tupac Inca Yupanqui Royal House where their original Inca walls are still well preserved, then we will visit a local weaving center and watch a demonstrations about their traditional weaving techniques and purchase some authentic handmade textiles like the famous Peruvian Ponchos. And then we will continue our visit to the village of Maras where is located the amazing archaeological park of Moray (unique terraces in a circle shape) which contains an important agricultural system. Moray, during the Incan times was possibly one of the most important agricultural research centers, where experiments were conducted at different heights crop, the arrangement of its platforms produces a variety of micro-climates taking the center of the concentric circular terraces higher temperature and decreasing gradually outward lower temperatures. After this important visit, we will arrive to our next stop and visit the famous Salt Mines (Salineras) where the salt still extracted in artisanal form, the Salt Mines are made up of about 3000 small wells that have been exploited since the Inca times and it was an economic exchange way. After this beautiful visit, we will drive you to Urubamba town to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Then, we will continue our journey to Ollantaytambo and visit it’s amazing Archaeological Park of Ollantaytambo also known for its impressive architecture where we can see temples, amazing terraces. Finally, we will take you to the train station located in the same town of Ollantaytambo and board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu pueblo). This train journey allows you to appreciate the fascinating scenery along the sacred Vilcanota River. Arrive at Aguas Calientes train station where you will be welcomed by our hotel staff and Machupicchu Latin America representative who will walk you to the hotel. After check in at the hotel, the balance of the day is all yours at leisure.

Overnight: Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu pueblo)

Day 2: Machu Picchu guided Tour - return to Cusco

After breakfast at your hotel, our Machupicchu Latin America guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby between 6:30am to 7:00am and walk you to the bus station to board the bus and take a 30 minutes ride up to the main entrance gate of Machu Picchu to begin a unique experience by exploring one of the New Seven Wonders of the World accompanied with a professional tour guide who will share with you all his knowledge about the history, traditions and more that surrounds this mysterious and enigmatic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. After we are done with the visit, board the bus down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) and enjoy some extra time at the town to get some local souvenirs and then board the train back to Ollantaytambo train station where our representative will be waiting for you and transferred in our private transport back to your Cusco hotel.

Enjoy the energetic buffet breakfast at the hotel before we head up to Machu Picchu. Our Machupicchu Latin America expert guide will pick you up from the hotel lobby and walk you to the bus station to board the shuttle bus for 30 minutes up to the main entrance gate of Machu Picchu where we will begin a unique experience by exploring one of the New Seven Wonders of the world accompanied with a professional expert guide who will share with you all his knowledge about the history, traditions and more that surrounds this mysterious and enigmatic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu according the ticket (Circuit 1, 2, or 3). After we are done with the visit, board the bus down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) and enjoy some extra time at the town to get some local souvenirs and then board the train back to Ollantaytambo train station where our representative will be waiting for you by the exit gate and transferred in our Comfortable transport back to your Cusco hotel.

Itinerary

Day 1: Sacred Valley to Chinchero weaving center - Moray - Salt mines - Ollantaytambo and train to Aguas Calientes

Cusco:

7:00am: After breakfast at your Cusco hotel, our Machupicchu Latin America expert guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby and board our comfortable transport to begin an amazing journey to the new Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Chinchero waving center:

8:20am: After one hour drive will arrive to Chinchero our first stop during this amazing journey, we will visit the Tupac Inca Yupanqui Royal house, then we will visit a local weaving center and watch their traditional weaving techniques. We can also purchase some authentic handmade textiles like the famous Peruvian Poncho.

Archaeological Park of Moray

9:20am: Then we will drive to the village of Maras where is located the amazing archaeological site of Moray, the most important agricultural research centers.

Salt Mines (Salineras de Maras)

10:35am: After this important visit, we will drive to our next stop and visit the famous Salt mines (Salineras de Maras). The Salt Mines are made up of about 3000 small wells.

11:40am: After this beautiful visit, we will drive you to Urubamba town for about 30 minutes for lunch.

Urubamba (stop for lunch)

12:30pm: Time to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch (not included):.

Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park:

13:30pm: We will continue our journey to Ollantaytambo and visit it’s amazing Inca city also known for its impressive architecture where we can see temples, amazing terraces.

Ollantaytambo train station:

15:10pm: Finally, we will take you to the train station located in the same town of Ollantaytambo and board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu pueblo).

Train Journey to Aguas Calientes:

15:37pm: This train journey allows you to appreciate the fascinating scenery along the sacred Vilcanota River.

Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu pueblo):

17:02pm: Arrive to the train station, meet our representative by the exit gate who will walk you to the hotel. After check in at the hotel, the balance of the day is all yours at leisure.

Bus back to Aguas Calientes:

12:20pm: Board the train back to Ollantaytambo train station, the return train ride takes 90 minutes.

Ollantaytambo Train station:

14:30pm: Arrive to the train station, meet our representative by the exit gate who will be holding a sign with your name and our Machupicchu Latin America logo and then board our comfortable transport to make our way to Cusco.

Cusco:

16:30pm: After almost two hours drive, we will arrive in Cusco and drop off you to your hotel or Cusco airport.

The cost of entry to Maras and Moray varies depending on the type of tourist ticket you purchase. If you opt for the Partial Tourist Ticket, which includes specific sites like Moray, the price is approximately 70 soles. If you buy the Complete Tourist Ticket, which includes more sites in the region, the cost is 130 soles. For the Maras Salt Mines, the entry price is approximately 10 additional soles, as they are not included in the tourist ticket.

To go from Maras to Machu Picchu, you can follow this 2-day itinerary. After visiting Maras, Moray, and the Salt Mines, you will transfer to Ollantaytambo to take the train to Aguas Calientes. From there, the next day, you will board a bus to reach the entrance of Machu Picchu. This route is the most comfortable and scenic, allowing you to enjoy the main sites in the Sacred Valley and the scenic train ride to Machu Picchu.

The Maras Salt Mines are a collection of over 3,000 salt pools located on the mountainside in the Sacred Valley. These pools have been used since Inca times for salt extraction, formed by salty water flowing from an underground spring. Today, the pools are still exploited in an artisanal manner by local families, who collect and sell Maras salt.

The journey from Cusco to Aguas Calientes takes between 3 to 4 hours. First, you will travel by private transport from Cusco to the train station in Ollantaytambo, which takes approximately 1.5 hours. Then, you will board the train for a scenic journey of 1.5 to 2 hours to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
