Next, we continue to Maras, where the famous Moray archaeological site awaits. Day 2: Machu Picchu Guided Tour - Return to Cusco

After breakfast, the highlight of your journey awaits: Machu Picchu. Your guide will meet you at your hotel between 6:30 am and 7:00 am, and together you'll take a 30-minute bus ride up to the entrance of this mystical Inca citadel.

If you buy the Complete Tourist Ticket, which includes more sites in the region, the cost is 130 soles. For the Maras Salt Mines, the entry price is approximately 10 additional soles, as they are not included in the tourist ticket.

To go from Maras to Machu Picchu, you can follow this 2-day itinerary. After visiting Maras, Moray, and the Salt Mines, you will transfer to Ollantaytambo to take the train to Aguas Calientes. From there, the next day, you will board a bus to reach the entrance of Machu Picchu. This route is the most comfortable and scenic, allowing you to enjoy the main sites in the Sacred Valley and the scenic train ride to Machu Picchu.

The Maras Salt Mines are a collection of over 3,000 salt pools located on the mountainside in the Sacred Valley. These pools have been used since Inca times for salt extraction, formed by salty water flowing from an underground spring. Today, the pools are still exploited in an artisanal manner by local families, who collect and sell Maras salt.

The journey from Cusco to Aguas Calientes takes between 3 to 4 hours. First, you will travel by private transport from Cusco to the train station in Ollantaytambo, which takes approximately 1.5 hours. Then, you will board the train for a scenic journey of 1.5 to 2 hours to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
