FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

To travel from Machu Picchu to Lake Titicaca, you must first return to Cusco. From Cusco, the easiest way is to take a scenic tourist bus or train to Puno, the city on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The journey takes around 6 to 10 hours depending on the mode of transport, with stops at various cultural and historical sites along the way if you choose a bus tour.

Although both Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca are located in Peru, they are not very close. Machu Picchu is in the Cusco region, while Lake Titicaca lies further southeast, near the border with Bolivia. The distance between Cusco and Puno (Lake Titicaca) is about 387 km (240 miles), which typically requires a full day of travel.

According to Inca mythology, Lake Titicaca is the birthplace of the Inca civilization. Legend says that the first Inca emperor, Manco Cápac, and his sister-wife Mama Ocllo emerged from the lake, sent by the sun god Inti to establish the Inca Empire. This connection makes Lake Titicaca a sacred and culturally significant location for the Incas.

The best time to visit both Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. This period offers clear skies and mild weather, making it ideal for exploring the ruins and enjoying the lake's beauty.
