Moray and Salt Mines

Overview:

Explore the amazing Moray archaeological complex with several circular shape terraces unique in Peru which were likely used to test and help grow crops at the different levels of the terraces. And then, short stop at the village of Maras to take some pictures then visit Salineras, where a saltwater spring gushes forth from these high-altitude mountains and tumbles down the mountainside into individual evaporation chambers which have been fully operational in bringing the people of the highlands salt, ever since Inca times finally Chinchero and its amazing homemade textiles by the Chinchero women typically dressed.

Half Day - Maras Moray, Chinchero ruins and Salt Mines tour

After breakfast at your hotel, our Machupicchu Latin America guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby between 7:45 to 8:00 am and drive you in our comfortable transport from Cusco to Chinchero which will be our first top if you haven`t visited before, and visit the Tupac Inca Yupanqui Royal House where their original Inca walls are still well preserved and have a chance to meet the Chinchero women in their traditional dressing in a weaving or textile center. And then continue our drive to the village of Maras until we arrive at the archaeological site of Moray which contains an important agricultural system. Moray, during the Incan times, was possibly one of the most important agricultural research centers, where experiments were conducted at different heights crop, the arrangement of its platforms produces a variety of micro-climates taking the center of the concentric circular shape terraces higher temperature and decreasing gradually outward lower temperatures. After this amazing visit, we will drive to our last stop and visit the famous Salt mines (Salineras). The salt is extracted in artisanal form, the Salt Mines are made up of about 3000 small wells that have been exploited since the Inca times and it was an economic exchange way. After we explore these beautiful places, we will drive you back to your Cusco hotel arriving around 13:00 pm.

Itinerary

Day 1: Chinchero weaving center - Moray - Salt mines - Cusco

Cusco:

7:30am: After breakfast at your Cusco hotel, our Machupicchu Latin America expert guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby and board our comfortable transport to begin an amazing journey to the new Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Chinchero waving center:

8:40am: After one hour drive will arrive to Chinchero our first stop during this amazing journey, we will visit the Tupac Inca Yupanqui Royal house, then we will visit a local weaving center and watch their traditional weaving techniques. We can also purchase some authentic handmade textiles like the famous Peruvian Poncho.

Archaeological Park of Moray

9:40am: Then we will drive to the village of Maras where is located the amazing archaeological site of Moray, the most important agricultural research center.

Salt Mines (Salineras de Maras)

10:40am: After this important visit, we will drive to our next stop and visit the famous Salt mines (Salineras de Maras). The Salt Mines are made up of about 3000 small wells.

11:40am: After this beautiful visit, we will return to Cusco arriving around 13:00pm.
